**These are for Home Edition of Windows Vista**
Strait from Microsoft... # 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor # 512 MB of system memory # 20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space # Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory Has anyone actually tried this with 512 and it worked well enough that they would ever suggest running windows vista with less than a gig of memory? |

XP barely runs on 512. I cant imagine trying to run vista on 512. Not to mention, if I want an interface like that...I'll buy a Mac and get the real thing.

Vista just seems like Microsoft was in a hurry to make something new that was pretty. That's the only thing that seems ok with vista...it's pretty. Not very impressive, and the stupid security measures in it just to get to places like device manager and whatnot are very unnecessary.

It was called 'Longhorn' back then. They rushed for 6 years to complete it and apparently on the first boot it has to d/l 60-something updates. **My facts have been fudged b/c I not only refuse to use Vista, I won't research it either. -------------------- ![]() |

till they actually work out the bugs, its going to remain to be a piece of junk.
Pretty bad when Information Week does and article on how to "downgrade" http://www.informationweek.com/news/showAr...id=nl_IWK_daily -------------------- I'll kill you in your sleep... On here of course :P Visit My Website

Wow not many techies here.
Let me bump a two year old thread by saying the problem with Vista was people running it with minimum requirements. In all the two years this thread idled I never had an issue with Vista. |

Technician has hit the target on the problem with Vista. The problem is Microsoft always vastly under rates their minimum requirements. But which is really faster Vista or XP?
Well. That depends. It really depends on the environment, and is sorta like comparing an Indy Car (Vista) with a Nascar stock car (XP). Vista requires a lot more hardware and ram to shine. A so-so Indy car will blow the doors off of any top Nascar stock car on a 2 1/5 mile oval which it is designed to run on. Conversely Any Nascar will blow away all Indy cars on a 1/2 mile track: the Indy car don't have enough room to operate or open up. Like the Indy car Vista requires a lot more CPU, RAM and graphics hardware to shine. And XP Home will blow Vista away if a person only has Microsoft's minimum requirements, but on a fast gaming machine with good graphics and lots of RAM Vista wins easily. However I think Linux with Compiz and Emerald will blow either Vista or XP away in any environment, whether you rate just speed or eye candy. The first 1:30 is Vista.
